Cottonwood Wins Significant Administrative Appeal that Protects Lynx, Grizzlies, and Sensitive Plant Species.

April, 2010

Cottonwood won an important administrative appeal it filed on behalf of Alliance for the Wild Rockies and Native Ecosystems Council. The appeal challenged a logging project in the Benchmark area of the Lewis and Clark National Forest that would have destroyed over 750 acres of Canada Lynx and grizzly bear habitat, and potential habitat for sensitive plant species.

As a result of the appeal, the Forest Service pulled the project and conceded that it had not adequately assessed the environmental impacts of the logging project. This was the first appeal that led to a project being reversed in its entirety in Region One of the Forest Service in over a year.
